Welcome to Te Akau, taonga of Northland
Te Akau
Te Akau (Elliot Bay) is an iconic surf beach in Northland fringed by indigenous forest to the west, and the Pacific Ocean to the east. Designated as “an outstanding national landscape” by the Northern Regional Council, it is a place of significant ecological, archaeological, and cultural importance.
Ipipiri Trust
The Ipipiri Nature Conservancy Trust is a charitable trust that was established by Geoff and Fran Ricketts. Alongside local iwi, supporters, and collaborators, we work to protect, preserve, and restore the area for future generations of New Zealand.
Iwi History
Te Akau is an area of cultural and historical significance to Māori, home to Rawhiti-based iwi Ngāti Kuta and Te Patu Keha.
Our Stories
Te Akau (Elliot Bay) saved for conservation
The Ipipiri Nature Conservancy Trust achieved its funding goal through the generous donations of founding donors and friends.
Planning a trail
through Te Akau
One of the first priorities for the Ipipiri Nature Conservancy Trust is to develop a high-quality walk through the property.
Strengthening our pest
control programme
The Ipipiri Nature Conservancy Trust is working to realise a dream of the community; to make the Cape Brett peninsula pest-free.
