Ipipiri Nature Conservancy Trust
The Ipipiri Nature Conservancy Trust is a charity founded by Geoff and Fran Ricketts, passionate conservationists who regularly visited Te Akau (Elliot Bay) for over 50 years.
To protect, preserve, and restore the ecology, environment, cultural heritage, and history of Ipipiri (Eastern Bay of Islands) and Te Akau for future generations of New Zealand.
Our Vision
The Principal Objectives of the Trust
-
Protect and restore the area’s natural environment, flora, and fauna; from the beachfront to the centuries-old native forest abundant with endangered indigenous bird life.
-
Preserve the Māori cultural heritage, the historical significance of the area, and its importance for iwi to become a taonga (treasure) for the history of Northland.
-
Develop the nature walk within the boundaries of the property, with the future view of collaborating with the Department of Conservation to create a new Great Walk. This Great Walk would connect tracks in the area to create a multi-day hiking trail that attracts tourism and showcases the natural splendour of the region.
